Well done to the Aldersgate Group for their briefing on the National Wealth Fund, calling for bold steps to maximise investment for the UK’s green transition.   We fully support the recommendations to expand the Fund’s financial firepower, particularly to unlock more blended finance solutions and better coordinate the UK’s public finance ecosystem to crowd in private capital at pace. 💷   Alongside clean energy initiatives, it is crucial that the NWF mobilises private investment into nature-based solutions, which can act as a significant growth engine for the economy. From our experience designing and raising funds for the UK Nature Impact Fund, we know that strong policy and delivery structures are vital to make nature-positive investments viable for institutional investors. 🥾 Last week, Finance Earth was delighted to co-organise and attend the Conservation Finance Bootcamp, hosted alongside Eurosite - the European Land Conservation Network, North Pennines National Landscape and The Conservation Finance Network. 🌿 Big news for UK nature finance! We’re pleased to announce that the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) has reconfirmed its £30 million investment in the Big Nature Impact Fund, the England strategy of the UK Nature Impact Fund, which has relaunched with Finance Earth as sole fund manager. Defra's investment commitment was stated at yesterday’s Green Finance Roundtable, co-hosted by Green Finance Institute and Lloyds Banking Group with the Rt Hon Steve Reed OBE MP and Mary Creagh CBE MP, where leaders in business, environmental finance, and government came together to accelerate investment in UK nature recovery. With a fundraising target of £120 million, the Fund aims to unlock private capital for Nature-based Solutions, helping to close the UK’s nature finance gap. 🌱 Richard Speak, our Managing Director, joined the Roundtable and has said: “The UK is one of the most nature-depleted countries in the world and faces a significant funding gap for nature recovery. This Fund was created to address this problem by providing investors access to an aggregated portfolio of investible nature restoration projects across England that deliver positive impacts for climate, nature and communities. We are delighted that the UK Government is continuing to back the UK Nature investment platform and Finance Earth’s capability to deliver it.” 🌳 The Fund will invest in woodland planting, peatland restoration and other habitat creation projects that aim to maximise social and environmental impact, generating returns via high-integrity carbon and biodiversity credit sales, alongside other revenue streams. 🌾 Developing a scalable BNG business model for working farms bordering nature reserves has been a brilliant learning experience through this NEIRF project. A key focus has been understanding how a BNG project can be designed to be commercially viable to help farmers diversify revenues while restoring nature on less productive fields. 🦋 Strixton Manor Farm, in particular, has amazing potential to meaningfully contribute to the Local Nature Recovery Strategy (#LNRS) for North Northamptonshire by effectively helping to extend the neighbouring Wildlife Trust site. 🦡 It’s been a pleasure collaborating with David & Anne Hutchinson of Strixton Manor Farm, David Alborough MRICS MRAC at Carter Jonas, Nicholsons, Laurence Gould Partnership Ltd., Ellacotts Accountants, and The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, Northamptonshire on this important work.  #NEIRF #BNG #BiodiversityNetGain #NatureRecovery #GreenFinance  Richard Fitton Caleb Wheeler-Robinson Allan Benhamou Daisy Bidault
